The Accounting and Finance course offers students the opportunity to develop understanding of the value of small business to the community, the ability to maintain a set of financial records of a business and understand the impact of the GST on day to day operations of business. The use of both manual and electronic processing of transactions is an essential tool for both employers and employees. These basic skills are an integral part of any Commerce degree at Western Australian universities.

Financial preparation and analysis is essential for all businesses. The establishing of budgets and measuring performance is an effective tool whether you are an employee/manager, owner or investor. Australian companies must work within a regulated framework which supports the economy in a stable environment. Company regulations protect potential investors and the accuracy of financial reporting. Students who have studied Accounting and Finance 3A/3B have a significant advantage when completing a Commerce degree at a tertiary institution.

This course is an ENDORSED PROGRAM for any student who is planning on working in, or running an office environment. Employable life skills and practical applications in the areas of the following will be covered:

Investigate the financial world you will be entering and develop financial literacy skills which can impact on your future. Learn how to make money work for you and increase your wealth. An awareness of some of the pitfalls and scams that are designed to make you poorer will be explored.
